Ministry Practicums at ASOM

At ASOM, we believe ministry is not just something you learn—it’s something you live. That’s why each credentialing level (Certified, Licensed, and Ordained) includes a required practicum designed to help you develop the core competencies needed for effective, Spirit-led ministry.

These practicums give students real-world opportunities to apply what they're learning in the classroom to actual ministry settings—under the guidance of seasoned leaders. Each practicum must be completed under the supervision of a credentialed Assemblies of God minister who is ordained or holds at least one level higher than the practicum level being completed.

The practicum is not just a requirement—it’s a key part of your formation as a leader. It allows you to grow in character, sharpen your calling, and build confidence in the context of real ministry work. Our goal is to help you bridge the gap between theological training and practical application so that you're prepared to serve the Church with excellence.

Practicum
FAQs

  • We recommend a minimum of 3 months to complete your practicum. This allows time to engage deeply in meaningful ministry experiences.

  • You can start at any time—and the earlier, the better. Since practicums are required for credentialing, we encourage you to begin as soon as possible.

  • Each practicum course is only $20, making it one of the most affordable and high-impact parts of your training.

  • Every practicum includes five major ministry experiences that are tailored to your credentialing level. For a complete overview, please refer to our Practicum Info Packet.

  • You are responsible for choosing your own mentor. Your mentor must be a credentialed AG minister who is ordained or at least one level higher than the practicum you are completing. They must also complete the Mentor Agreement Form available on this page.

  • In rare cases, we may waive the practicum requirement for ministers who are already serving in pastoral staff roles. To see if you qualify, please contact our ASOM team directly.

Practicum Mentor Form

Thank you for investing in the next generation of ministers. As a practicum mentor, your role is to provide spiritual guidance, practical oversight, and encouragement to an ASOM student as they complete their hands-on ministry training.

Each practicum is designed to help students apply what they are learning in real-world ministry contexts. Your leadership is essential in helping them grow in character, competency, and calling.

In order to officially begin the mentorship, this form must be completed and submitted. It confirms your willingness to guide the student and allows us to connect your mentorship with their academic record.

Please review the overview documents below to understand the expectations and key ministry experiences required for each level (Certified, Licensed, and Ordained).

Each practicum includes a minimum of three one-on-one meetings between you and your mentee to discuss progress, reflect on experiences, and provide feedback.

If you have any questions or would like support throughout the mentoring process, our ASOM team is here to help.
